Frequently Ask Questions:
A word about digital photography
For an artist, the act of creation is a process. You wedding day is a very important day in which most people want to have a photographer who is able to capture and express some of the events in an artistically interpretive way. The revolution of digital photography gives me an even greater tool to deepen the artistic process of capturing the day. Photographing with a digital camera allows me to build a closer dialogue with the images that I am creating. It allows me to reflect and identify the artistic metaphors that can tell the story of your wedding day. Digital capture allows me to take more artistic risks without the costs. With a digital workflow in place I am able to edit the images I capture before sending them to the lab to be proofed, further improving upon their quality at each step. Digital wedding photography allows me to be better at what I do. And just so you know, the images are printed on the same paper as film from my professional lab - but digital capture has better overall image quality.
- What is Wedding photojournalism? Or why do your pictures look so 'different'?
- How does your digital proofing process work?
- Do you offer enlargements? how much do they
cost?
- Yes, I do. Your password protected proofing web site is a powerful tool for you to get the most out of your wedding images. You can make basic editing decisions like cropping and converting to black and white. You can order prints any size from 3"x5"($3) to 10"x15"($18). We will give you a sample of the proofing web site upon request.
- Do you use a digital camera?
- Yes, beginning in the 2003 season I will be shooting 98% digital. There are several reasons for this, the foremost is the creative freedom that digital gives me. The instant feedback the camera provides feeds my imagination and helps me focus in on the story in the moment. I shoot with a professional Canon system and have backup cameras, lenses and flashes. The quality of image produced by my digital camera surpasses iso400 print film I used to use in both resolution and color accuracy, overall producing a better image. You can read about the mathematical why if you like. You can also read TheKnot.com's discussion of the topic.
- Do you charge for travel to Buffalo?
- Yes, I do not charge for travel beyond 50 miles of Lima New York. The Buffalo/Niagara Falls metro area are 80-90 miles and so will incur a $160-200 mileage fee. I am available for travel to anywhere, but you are required to cover the cost of travel. I have photographed weddings in Mexico, South Carolina, Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, D.C. and Pennsylvania. I regularly travel across New England and the East coast.
- Do you do engagement portraits?
- Yes, you can see the few samples I put up on the site. The sitting that is included in the diva and elements package is for a single location candid portrait session. This does not include any prints or print credits - you have to buy the prints that you want. To add a portrait session to your Debutant package you may look at the pricing on my services page. You can look through my editorial portraiture galleries or come up with your own ideas. Then we'll get together to shoot some cool images so that you are familiar with how your web site works before your wedding.
- How many images do you do the creative retouching
on?
- I generally select from 3 to 9 images to creatively alter. Sometimes a wedding may inspire me to do a stylistic series. I color correct and balance the levels and contrast in all of the images that are proofed on your website. The effect may be subtle or dramatic
