Philosophy

To do quality work with a learner’s attitude; to make a business where creativity is abundant, criticism is shared, and leadership is strong; to be prolific in that environment furthering my abilities beyond what I thought possible.

Biographical Information

I love nature and feel my art follows the design and revelation that I absorb around me in the world. I am drawn to distill the elemental forms I see in natural phenomenon and to experience nature in physically active ways when my creative passions need renewal. I also enjoy other things like going to concerts, adventure education and reading. I was educated as a studio artist and so there's a little of 'art for art's sake' spirit in me. I learned tonality from my printmaking professor, composition and color from my painting professor, and seeing forms from my sculpture professor. Since I was not educated by photographers, I don't have a technically austere approach, but tackle each assignment with holistic thought process. I'm currently a freelance artist, primarily a photographer, who often provides design and service support acting as a one man advertising agency.

Well I hope you can appreciate that its difficult to write one's own biography and so can forgive this lousy rambling. I'll go back to working on the important parts of the site, taking photos and just show you ca few other shots from my highlight reel so you can get to know me a little better.

FAQ:

  • How old are you?:
I am 29 years old, and a committed father of two from my loving and productive marriage (see photos of my son and daughter below).
  • What is a 'Visual Artist'?:
    Its a description:
" To be an artist is a process, not a destination. It is a way of life, not a title for your business card. It is a grand experiment in challenge and discovery, not an accomplishment that earns you a passing grade on life's report card." (from Photography as a Verb by Brooks Jensen)
I'm strongly visually oriented which means that my brain relates best to the world in image forms. I simply find outlet in taking photos, and designing things because they are commercially profitable mediums. I resonate at great frequency with the word prolific in my objective statement and so it looks like I've accomplished a lot. But, if you were to look at my journal you'd understand the time shortage I feel pressed by to explore and execute just my good ideas.

A few highlight shots

Under the Milky Way: 5.11c-d - Summersville WV - 1998

A little rest before continuing this very strenuous and varied route up the 80' overhanging arete. By far the best rout I've ever been on because of its beautiful exposure and transitions from overhanging to vertical across the blade of rock on thin crimpers and mild divots.

Here are some shots my friend Scotty took of me playboating on the Route 3 wave in Watertown in the spring of 2001.
